Excerpts from the Tears of Joy, Tears of Frustration Exhibition for International Women's Day 2006

"Everything happens for a reason. Even when you are having a crappy day you've got to believe in something. Like, being pregnant at 17 made me stronger, or if you lose your job, there's a better job out there". Nikki, Melton Young, Pregnant and Parenting Group.(left)

"I went to see my mother in Chile after five years. I was determined to reconcile with her, but she had no concept of there being anything to reconcile. But for me, I'm more conscious of my actions as a mother. That's what opportunities like this can enable to happen."

"Being a mother is different now. I know that I make mistakes and I can learn. I can say to my kids, 'I'm sorry'. My parents never did that."Women from the Spanish Speaking Mothers Group

"I've put words and pictures that represent the way I felt about my childhood. The green is because I've always been a nature person and I share that with my children. I've put 'excited' because it's an exciting time. 'Able to change' because I've had to change myself, like become a less tidy person. 'Creative' because I'm always thinking". Paula, Spanish-speaking Mothers Group (left)

"The imprint of how you were brought up is always there. But at the same time I know I've got the choice to say something different to my daughter, for example, when she wears something revealing." Mothers from the Spanish-speaking Mothers Group
