Tears of Joy, Tears of Frustration
Exhibition for International Women's Day 2006

An emotional journey through diverse experiences of mothering

This exhibition was put together for an event celebrating International Women's Day 2006, at which more than 200 women and their children from across the Western Region gathered in Melton to celebrate the diversity of mothering, enjoy a relaxing day and make connections with each other and with local service providers. The event and exhibition are also part of a long-running action research project on women's emotional wellbeing.

The artwork was produced by women from existing support groups around the Western Region, including an Indigenous mothers group, a same-sex/lesbian mothers group, a Spanish-speaking mothers group, a Macedonian-speaking group for mothers and grandmothers, a young mothers group, a single mothers group and a group for women (many of them mothers) who have experienced mental illness. Click here for group contacts.

Women's Health West would like to thank all the women involved for so openly sharing their feelings and experiences around mothering. A hard copy edition of the catalogue is also available by contacting Women's Health West.
