ENCOURAGING WOMEN TO JOIN WHW BOARD

Women's Health West will hold a public information session for women who may be interested in joining the organisation's Board, at 6pm on Thursday 26 June at the Maribyrnong Library, 56 Paisley Street Footscray.

"Our Board provides the vision and direction to ensure we meet the needs of women in the Western Region," says Women's Health West CEO Melissa Afentoulis. "It is our key link with the diverse communities we serve."

"We would like to see a wide range of women come along to this session," says Ms Afentoulis. "Even if you have never thought of being on a Board, we encourage you to come along, get inspired and find out what it's all about. The Board would welcome women with diverse backgrounds and skills, including finance, leadership, policy development, planning, community development, access and equity."

The information session features guest speaker Cath Smith, CEO of the Victorian Council of Social Service. Ms Smith has worked the community, overseas aid and environment sectors, and has been a member of several community-based boards of management. She will talk about the importance of community governance in keeping organisations connected and relevant to the communities they serve.

Women's Health West provides services including health education, research, advocacy, community development, support and crisis intervention to women across the Western Region. Its nine-member volunteer Board provides the organisation with guidance in key areas including financial accountability, policy directions on major issues of women's health and safety, community needs, emerging issues and strategic directions.
