Lindy Corbett, Project Worker for Women with a Disability
In February 2007 Women's Health West (WHW) undertook a HACC (Home and Community Care) agency assessment for the Sunrise Women with a Disability groups. WHW has run this gender-based health program for women with a disability since 1991 and this process tested the program against the HACC National Service standards. We scored 20/20 which is a great result!
The women's groups meet monthly in Laverton and Werribee for friendship, fun and health information relevant to women with a disability. The most recent activities have included a health information session on how to talk to your doctor, a visit to the Victoria Market and a make-up day.
We were assessed against seven objectives including topics such as access to services, information and consultation, efficient and effective management, privacy, confidentiality and access to information, advocacy and complaints procedures. The project worker and manager were available on the day to answer questions regarding program planning, evaluation and networking.
Anyone interested in hearing more about the programs run for women with a disability can contact Lindy Corbett (Wednesdays and Fridays) at Women's Health West on 9689 9588 or email us contact us.
